Dr. Chan took his training at the University of Hong Kong, followed by a visiting fellowship in surgical pathology at the Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CT and at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA. He then joined the department of pathology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Hong Kong, where he currently serves as Consultant Pathologist and Director of Anatomic Pathology.

Dr. Chan is recognized as one of the most prominent hematopathologists in the world. He has not only contributed extensively to the hematopathology literature, but was one of the principal members of the International Lymphoma Study Group responsible for developing the REAL classification of lymphoma and of the WHO International Histological Classification of Tumors of the Hematolymphoid System. He is also one of the authors of the 3rd. series AFIP Fascicle on ¡§Tumors of the Lymph Nodes and Spleen¡¨.

Dr. Chan is additionally known for being one of the most prolific authors in the field of surgical pathology. He has authored more than 400 original studies, review articles, letters and other incisive and provocative pieces that span the entire gamut of surgical pathology. He serves on the editorial board of 11 medical journals, including the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Histopathology, Annals of Diagnostic Pathology and others, and was the founder and Chief Editor of the very successful new journal Advances in Anatomic Pathology.
